TO my mother

As i read this poem by Edgar Allen Poe I picked it simply because I was needing an idea for my parent letters :) but as you probabl yknow this was a bad one to pick. as this poem is about a mothers death being hard becuase the boy was just too young. No child should have to go through this. perosnally i have seen a kkid lose thier father at the time he needed him the most and it is one on the hardest things to get over in life esecially becuase if they leave when one is just a child there is still someone who must take the spot of that parent as a guardian. this poem is written in an AB AB rhyme shceme. when there is a rhyme scheme i feel that the poem flows so much smoother it is so much easier to understand and read through a poem that flows smoothly it really bothers me when a poem is just words broke down into lines. it doesn’t feel complete. it feels trown together without a pattern to follow

Dust of Snow

Dust of snow by robert frost is a vert short poem composed in ab ab cd cd rhyme scheme. It seems that in this poem a crow represents a person or object that works a way unwelcoming into the speakers life. much like a person who one doesn’t care for much but manipulates ones way into the life of the speaker, in a tricky and side stage. so in the poem the crow is not dierctly related to the speaker. but he effects his life by shaking the snow out of the tree causing a second chance. much like a returning love would do. the shaken snow is a second chance for the speaker to enjoy the snow that he other wise would have missed or takin for granted. and becuase the speaker has a change in heart a assume that he was regreting his first decision and need that little puch by an outside unrelated thing to get him back on the right path.

I could give all to Time

THis poem by robert Frost is written in an ababa rhyme shceme it has three stanzas with 5 lines each. I love how everything is refered back to people the “eddies” and the “smiles”. the way that time is personified to have an idea of people. the ocean waves and mountain peaks are symbols of lifes struggles. the ups and downs of life and them counteracting each other to level out. not making it joyful of grievful. just nutral much like breaking even in a business one doesn’t really make money but they don’t lose money. In the last stanza Frost talks about how he gives all to time. except what he wants to keep. which makes since. becuase people dedicate all times of the day to something. work or school or play even. but what happens when you just wasnt to keep a place not ruled by time. then it isn’t giveing anything  to time except what you want. this making it possible to control time and not have a day run by clocks or hours. Night and day you can go through life without boundaries. tiem doesn’t tell you how to act what to do or who to do it with. when a person gets to control time they can control everything about life because if people didn’t have time. when would they be busy. they wouldn’t have deadlines or start times. lilfe would be endless and carefree. you can give everything to time except what you don’t want to give to time and that you keep to yourself

Blog 2 Night clouds

This poem by Amy Lowell is beautiful I would never have thought of discribing the night sky as horses running from the rising sun and the sun as a bright tiger. chasing the horses like prey. all hte stars are the hoofs of the horses or the glass floor of heaven. is a beautiful metaphore.  although the author didn’t use any type of organized rhyme scheme the poem flows smoothly through out this poem provides an intesting look into what the night sky is like the stars aren’t just stars they are magically symbols of hope and stuff. although the poem didn’t express much symbolism outside of what the moon sun ans stars are like metaphores about life or anything like that. the moon is horses and stars are the hoofs and the sun is a tiger chasing the horses away. the sun rise

Blog 1 The long white stem

By Jean Ingelow

3/30/09

This poem was, interesting to say the least, confusing for sure.  The begining three lines were beautiful although i would like to know what crags are if anyone can help… in this poem it sounds like a daughter or sister maybe past away. and were planning to be married. the long white stem being a wedding dress or symble of something like it. the speaker talks about how it was a dream. and how she hears singing. in the first stanza and the third stanza Jean matches a line in stanza one she says “And I marked my love by candlelight Sewing her long white seam.” and in stanza three while she is dreaming and seeing this love she says “By the candle’s flickering gleam, Her wedding-gown it was she wrought.” kind of matching her dream to how it was in life when they met, on that fine day of celebration, and commitment. and she was comminted for the rest of her life becuase in the poem the speaker seems to not be able to forget her. which to me is how marrage should be. commited for all of both of the lives. not marry and your wife dies so get a new wife. true love can only be found once. thats my opinion and i think that this poem really reflects that thought.

Blog 9 Heart we will forget him

I am always amazed when i read poems from hundreds of years ago that I see poeple today my age, able to relate to the poems. This poem flows along. I can connect with all her thoughts, in line 4 she is referring love and confort to light. Which makes sense when one is lost in a dark room, they are alone and scared. Nervous, no one around with them. and even if someone is there everything is a mystery a guess. But in the light things are clear, out in the open, and people are not alone. in the 2nd stanza she is encourging her heart to move on quickly because if it takes it time, Lags she says she will remember him. It is much like a battle between what her heart and her mind are telling her to do. We all encounter those battles and a very famous phrase is “listen to your heart” is that what should always happen? Can your heart lead you down the right path all the time? whose to know? does a person ever really listen to there heart or mind? or is there always a samll compromise, a negotioation between the two. IN the poem she is saying that when you let go and forget him, talking to her heart, than she will be able to dismiss him from her mind. rest everything on her heart, in a way that is her not wanting to give him up. No one wants to be left in the dark, and she says in line 4 that if her heart can let go or warmth, and love, she will forget the light, which is the comfort and safty that love provivded.

Blog 8 Becasue I could not stop for death

This poem by Emily Dickenson was very deep. It talks about the chariot that death drives and its path to enternity. When people think about death the first thought to mind is usually sad and depressing, and in the beginging of the poem that is so. But in the 2nd stnza there seems to be a vulta. and although the poem is still about death and dying. the mood is light hearted and comforting. The rhyme scheme in this poem is differnt. abcb defe. There is some repition in the third stnza each line starts with we passed. In stanza 5 we see aullision with the line tis’ centurys. There wasn’t much literary technique that jumped out at me. it seems to be more of a stright forward poem although. she is using a lot of symballism and metaphores. throughout the poem. and she is giving death human charateristic. which puts an interesting edge on the thought of death but it makes it seem like something you can see and talk to. something that has heart and feelings. Understanding even. She does a great job making this poem good. it is esay for everyone to read. and it doesn’t focus on religion or personal belifes. It is about life, something everyone has to face at one point. and that makes the idea something we can relate to. that gives us the reason to find comfort in this poem, becuase what if death was like this? and this could be proved, then who would be afraid?

Blog 7 Fate- Emerson

I love the way he writes this poem with lines and not caught up in syllable patterns. But he lets the poem flow together with an ABAB rhyme scheme.  Also when he is relating Love and beauty to Juno, Zues’ wife, who was really beautiful but really mean. I connected with that line because I knew what he was saying, and how he was viewing the beauty of it.  Something that i do not appreciate about this poem was he sense of love, and fate to be together. Speaking of how he doesn’t care if he loves her or if she loves him because he is fated to be withsome like her beautiful in a corset and such and she is fated to be with a master of the sword and what not. He ends with the thought that love is not what matters but who you should be with, and not so much who you should be with but the kind of person you should be with and finding that kind of person, should be all you need, that is not something I agree with. So for that idea alone this most definatly was not my favorite poem of the year. Sezuira is used in the lines throughout the poem like the exclimation of Brother at the bottem of the poem. also repetion of the beginning “or” is used in line 23 thru 27. Although his writing is euphonic I didn’t care for the poem too much

Blog 4 when we two parted by Lord Byron

This poem found a personal connection deep inside me, becuase all though the aouther was probably meaning something along the lines of death, and meeting again in heaven, I connected to it in a sense that in a few months I am leaving, Me and all my friends will part in two seperate ways. and It will be several years until I see them again. This poem makes me think about that alot right now especially since everyone is trying to convince people to go off to the right college and we are all rushing to figure out our future, without each other, its alot like starting over, like losing what everything in your life is.  The rhyme scheme is ABAB throughout the whole poem. Giving a flowing effect to the poem. IN the line:

The dew of the morning
Sunk chill on my brow–
It felt like the warning
Of what I feel now.

Represents tears falling from the eyes of the lover left behind, to deal emotionally with all sorrow left behind by the lover that pasted. the dew drop represents the sorrow. of feeling cold and alone. with nothing to comfort you. in the line

To sever for years,
Pale grew thy cheek and cold,
Colder thy kiss;

Revives the vivid mamory of the feelings of holding the hand of a loved one to say good bye before they are sunk into the ground. how its cold. and as he say Plae grew the cheek and cold; its how the tempurature is low, and also how there is an empty feeling on one end, its a cold feeling. Sad saying goodbye, to something already gone.

Poetry Blog 3 Robert Frost Nothing Gold Can Stay

Natures sunsets, the most understood beauty on this earth something that can be shared with everyone no matter where they are, or how far away. Yet something that is so rarely admired by people today. What is it about a sun rise that is so entrancing? Is it that we can only admire its beauty when we are up so early, or is it that it is always differnt, it is something new everyday. As he compares a sunset to a flower at its ripest bloom, it is a beauty that must be admired with care. becasue if not it simply goes away never to be seen again. Maybe seeing a sunset is so amazing because it is something you will never see again. It is a once in a life time chance, every morning of your life.
